i heart Howard Dean

I haven't really posted politically in a while...even though politics and our government is constantly on my mind. I ended up watching this show on the History Channel about our nations Presidents...and it was really interesting, especially hearing about the Presidents before my time.

And my thoughts today are on Howard Dean...the missed opportunity for this country when we so quickly cast him aside for having enthusiasm for the political process and for the vision which was ahead of him. But I digress...he isn't sulking or giving up just because he wasn't the one chosen in the last Presidential election.

Howard Dean is officially running to be elected the head of the Democratic National Committee. I think there couldn't be a more perfect person for the job. We need someone who brings passion and life to the party and helps invigorate our party, so that we don't fall asleep and lose yet another election.

In Howard's official statement this is what he has to say:

As I have traveled across our country, I have talked to thousands of people who are working for change in their own communities about the power of politics to make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others. Every group I have spoken to, I encouraged them to stand up for what they believe and to get involved in the electoral process—because the only sure way to make difference is to step up and run for office yourself.

The Democratic Party needs a vibrant, forward-thinking, long-term presence in every single state and we must be willing to contest every race at every level. We will only win when we show up and fight for the issues important to all of us.

If you want to hear all of what Howard had to say...here is a link to his statement and intent to lead the Democratic party into the future.

I couldn't ask for more...as a card carrying Democrat...to have Howard in a leadership position within the party. Maybe he wasn't the right person to be President, but his passion, intensity and ability to see the big picture is something that should bleed into the whole party...inch by inch...person by person.

Go Howard!

So, any guesses on what temperature it was this morning at the local, little airport???

Yep, that's right -22 degrees. Yes, I said it...negative freakin' 22 degrees. Luckily, I got to take the day off of work, so I got to spent most of the day inside, under the covers...taking naps in between episodes of Buffy.

Tonight, I do have to work at the video store, but it had actually warmed up a few degrees here and there...and once I am inside, I'll be more than fine.

This weekend was pretty boring. It snowed about a foot on Saturday...which meant that I went out to do my shopping before it started and spent the rest of the day at home watching movies.

I ended up watching the first season of Michael Moore's The Awful Truth...I really wish he would go back to making a weekly TV show. I think the episodes are funny, but also really have a distinct purpose. And for those who think he always supports the left and always bashes the right...well, this show was made during the Clinton Presidency...and he was outwardly not a fan of Clinton during that show. Yes, Moore felt strongly that Bush should be removed from office, but he also doesn't feel that just any shlub democrat should take his place. I personally would love to have seen Clinton stay in office forever, but those pesky rules!

Alrighty...I gotta go move my car, so here is hoping that I don't lose a limb to hyperthermia on the way.

brrr....

Yesterday...it was FREEZING cold! brrr....

*shivers*

The actual temperature ranged from about 9 degrees to down to 0 degrees by the end of the work day. And, of course since it was so cold...guess what I did for most of the day?? I spent it outside...driving around the south side of the county delivering meals to the elderly. The office next to ours...their driver for the meal delivery program cancelled or didn't show, so I picked up the route...since I didn't want people not to get their lunches.

Luckily, for most of the day...I was inside the warmth of my car, but it was frigidly cold whenever I got out of my car to deliver the next meal.

It was almost comical everytime I drove by the local bank...and got to watch the temperature dropping...it went from 9 degrees...to 7 degrees...to 5...and then to 2 degrees. By the time I got back to the office, it was actually zero degrees.

And, I am not even talking about the wind chill...I am just talking about the actual temperature. I had to walk from one side of the building to the other side...to drop off the keys to the delivery car...and just that short walk, my hands were quite red from the trip.

Once again....brrrr....

Today is supposed to be cold as well, but not that cold!

I think I kicked the Blog Explosion habit....

When I first started using Blog Explosion...it felt very much like a drug. I spent hours on some days....clicking on new sites to get more credits, etc. I loved seeing all these comments on my site, even if they were basically from strangers.

I do think BE is awesome...but well, I also think I was spending WAY too much time on the site. For the past two weeks or so, I have spent little to no time surfing on BE. I basically just haven't had the time...and at first, I really missed it, but now...I think I have kicked that BE habit.

*giggles*

Today is Martin Luther King Jr day. How many people have the day off of work or school? I think it is too bad that the whole world gets Presidents' Day off...but it seems like only a few get MLK, Jr off. I am working today, but it is by choice. I am going to supervise some community service sites for some of our kids who need to get their hours done...and that have the day off school.

P.S. I saw a bunch of movies in the last couple of weeks...The Forgotten, The Village, Cellular, Garden State, Wimbledon, etc...I think I might come back tonight and let y'all know how I liked em!

Enjoy the day if you have it off...and even if you don't.

20 Best Excuses for Calling In to Work...

I saw this article on MSN today and it just made me giggle, so I thought I would pass it along.

So, the next time you call in sick to work....I dare you to use one of these excuses!

1. I was sprayed by a skunk.

2. I tripped over my dog and was knocked unconscious.

3. My bus broke down and was held up by robbers.

4. I was arrested as a result of mistaken identity.

5. I forgot to come back to work after lunch.

6. I couldn't find my shoes.

7. I hurt myself bowling.

8. I was spit on by a venomous snake.

9. I totaled my wife's jeep in a collision with a cow.

10. A hitman was looking for me.

11. My curlers burned my hair and I had to go to the hairdresser.

12. I eloped.

13. My brain went to sleep and I couldn't wake it up.

14. My cat unplugged my alarm clock.

15. I had to be there for my husband's grand jury trial.

16. I had to ship my grandmother's bones to India.

17. I forgot what day of the week it was.

18. Someone slipped drugs in my drink last night.

19. A tree fell on my car.

20. My monkey died.

Now, I know #19 actually happened to someone I know, but well... she was at work at the time!

Aren't some of these just hilarious....

24 is on tonight....

I know I haven't updated in a while...and I have even been worse at reading the blogs of people I like and love. I know, I have been bad. I have been trying to figure out how to work at the day job, work at the night job and also find time to workout at the gym...so my ass doesn't grow any bigger than it already is.

You know the drill...but I am going to do better, I swear it!

Pic is courtesy of CTUHQ. Check them out!

Take a moment to read that lovely subject line of this entry. Yep, that is right...the best TV show EVER is going to be on tonight...FINALLY! I have been waiting for a new episode of 24 for a LONG time now. I can't wait to see what Jack Bauer is up to...and how he will spend the next 24 hours.

This season a lot of things about 24 are changing...and I hope it makes the show a better one, I am just a tad nervous that it will be too much change, too soon. The things that are changing are:

1. The show is moving from Tuesday nights to Monday nights. (Except for tonight when it will be on Sunday for a 2 hour event). See what I mean...24 is the kind of show where you really need to watch each and every episode...so, I worry with the show moving days and with the first episode on a different day from that...that they might miss some viewers along the way.

2. A lot of the cast is changing...or not coming back. It seems like a lot of the CTU crew won't be returning. And of course, we know that President Palmer was not running for re-election...so, I doubt we will see him again. I am really going to miss President Palmer. I have heard Kim won't be back either...and some think that is a very good thing. I agree that some of her storylines have been quite silly (umm...did someone say cougar?) but at the same time...I always thought the influence of Kim on Jack's life...was so crucial to the show. We got a clear reminder why Jack is willing to do the job he is doing...because of his relationship with Kim. Plus, Kim softens him...and often the show needs that. So, I am one of the few that is going to miss Kim's presence of the show.

3. There was something else that was changing, but I forgot what it was. I will remember later...long after this is posted.

The one thing that isn't changing...is that Kiefer Sutherland will be back. So, the show will still be all about Jack. I don't think Kiefer is the show, but I do think that the show wouldn't have the spark without Jack as one of the cast of characters.

I got to see the first 24 minutes of the first episodes...with a promo DVD I got my hands on...and so far, it looks different, but very very good. Tune in tonight and tell me if you agree.

Oh yeah...after the show, we usually spend some time discussion the show at Bauer's Basement. We nit pick and discuss all the aspects of the show, so I invite any 24 fans to swing by tonight after 10pm and to share your two cents on the show. Trust me, I'll be there.

P.S. Did I mention that Kiefer is hummina hot? If not, consider it officially mentioned.

Sydney kicks ASS!

I am a happy kid tonight....after a long day of work...running non-stop from 8am to 8pm...I come home and watch an amazing episode of Lost...followed by an episode of....

Alias. Yep, that's right...Alias is back and back with a vengeance. I awaited the fourth season for a long, long time....and I was pleasantly surprised by the new episode. I will admit, there are some things I don't like. I don't like the new APO office...and the ridiculous fact that Sloane is in charge.

Let me just say...Jack Bristow is a rock star. He's my hero...mainly because everything he does, no matter how horrible it is, it always comes from the deep love of his daughter. I think the character...the darkness of Jack Bristow makes Alias a much more complex and dramatic show.

I am looking forward to seeing what Alias brings me this season....

Did anyone else watch????

and a new year begins....

So, do people out there in blog land believe in New Year's Resolutions?

I would say no, but it is not entirely true. I like to use this time of year to look over my life, make some assessments and set some goals. So, they aren't really New Year's resolutions...since I tend to believe that resolutions seem to only be made in order to be broken.

So, this year...I am getting back to working out. I am going to go to the gym at least 4 times a week. I used to workout six days a week...and I need to get myself back to that....slowly, but surely.

I am also going to find a way to get involved politically again...in some meaningful way.

What are people's New Year's goal for 2005 and beyond???
