Happy Thanskgiving y'all....

I hope everyone is finding numerous things to be thankful for. I do find it hopeful that we have a holiday all about being thankful and recognizing that there is good out there in the world...especially seeing the direction that our country and world is going into. I do wish...that we would see the things to be grateful and thankful for every single day, but that's probably asking too much.

In years past...I have left a list of things I am thankful for, but well...let's just leave it that I am globally thankful for my life, my experiences and the people in it.

I woke up this morning...and Say Anything was on TV. That is one of my all-time favorite movies. If only there were really men like Lloyd Dobler out there in the world. *sighs*

getting back in gear...

I know...it's been a while. I have either been working or lazying around...or just dealing with stuff I either don't want to write about or can't write about. One thing in particular at work is driving me nuts...but I can't really blather on about it here...confidentiality and all. But it sucks...

Anyways...I am writing...once again from my very own apartment which I couldn't be happier about. I really enjoy having my own schedule again.

But guess what...that means I have to take this weight loss/exercise thing seriously again. I have let it go for too long. So, tomorrow...I am going to weigh myself when I wake up. I am going to start writing down everything I eat again...so I won't eat a whole box of cookies and stay in denial about it. And, I am going to start working out again. I have a whole extra bedroom...which has been designated the workout room...so, I had better get to working out.

I am lucky this week...I only have to work at the video store on Thursday...so, I will have time for lots of working out. So, no excuses this week, eh?

Wish me luck!!!

The final stage of my moving into my new apartment happened today...I hooked up my cable internet and moved my computer over to the apartment.

So, right now...I am typing in my very own apartment.

I adoringly love my parents for putting me up for the past year...while I was making NO money...and having to live dirt, dirt cheap...but, I really missed my independence. I missed being able to come and go as I please...I missed being able to make my own schedule. I missed being able to workout whenever I wanted. I missed being able to have friends over...and not having to ask mom and dad first. I missed being able to get up at 2am and mill around the place if I wanted to.

So, I am feeling at home in my new shindigs...I still have a lot of unpacking to do in order to make the place really feel like home, but I am so happy to be here.

Off to watch some trashy cable...and fall asleep...in my NEW APARTMENT!

Movie Review Sunday...err...Monday: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

I missed posting yesterday...since I had to work from 4pm until 1am...which I usually don't...so, my movie review is on Monday. Will ya forgive me?

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory Charlie and the Chocolate Favtory
Starring: Johnny Depp, Freddie Highmore, David Kelly
Director: Tim Burton

A plot overview...is that this is a remake of Willa Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971). The main premise is that an eccentric chocolate factory owner, Willa Wonka (Depp) closes down his factory to the outside to keep competing candy companies from stealing his ideas. Wonka decides to allow 5 children into his factory...and Charlie Buckets (Highmore) is lucky enough to be one of the 5 children. Once inside the factory...the quirky Wonka takes all the kids on an adventure and one by one each one of the kids disappears because of their own selfishness, etc.

I hated this movie....hated it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the 1971 version of Willa Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It is about as close to perfect as a movie can be...so, I knew I wouldn't like this new version. There are some movies...which are so good the first time around...a remake could never do them justice. Movies like Willa Wonka, The Christmas Story, Goonies, etc....should never be remade. They are already perfection.

Let's see...what's wrong with this version? Well, I feel that Tim Burton was the wrong person to take a stab at remaking this movie. I love Tim Burton's films...usually...but I think his style and well, weirdness...wasn't going to do this story any justice. And I also think Johnny Depp's choices in terms of how to play Willa Wonka just didn't work. He turned a character from being eccentric and a tad bit crazy...but likeable and inviting...to someone who seemed so creepy and vile. Everyone makes the Michael Jackson jokes about this film...but it is so true. It feels like you are watching Jackson inviting 5 kids into Neverland...and well, who wants to see that? I felt Gene Wilder played the character perfectly in the original...Willa Wonka was definitely crazy, but he didn't make your skin crawl.

Another huge problem...they totally ruined the Oompa Loompas. Grrr...I love the Oompa Loompas. They are crazy and fun...and sing little songs about how horrible children are. It's classic...it's great. The new version...ick...I was annoyed everytime I saw them. They didn't have the same mystical charm....plus, they were wearing the white paintsuits while dancing around.

Finally...I missed the aspect of the movie about having a competing candy company trying to get the kids to steal an everlasting gobstopper and bring it out. I felt not having that was lacking...because in the original, it gave a real reason for Charlie to win the factory. He showed himself as the only one who couldn't be bought...even when pushed.

I didn't like this movie...I kept hoping it would get better, but it did not. The original is genius...the re-make could never even come close to comparing. If you are heading out this weekend to rent Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...I recommend that you rent Willa Wonka instead!

and then there was cable....

The cable guy came to my apartment today...a little after 1pm...he puttered around the place...went into the basement and puttered there some more...and before I knew it, I had cable! It's really the last thing that my apartment needed...and now I am officially there. Well, I lie...I am home at my parents' right now because I haven't brought the computer over there just yet...but it is on the way.

The apartment is still a mess...with boxes everywhere...but it is slowly coming together.

P.S. Tomorrow is election day...so don't forget to vote. I have an election related post...but it might be a downer and kind of pessimistic, so I will wait until tomorrow. Today is all about delight and merriment over the arrival of cable!

sneaking in a post at work....

Hey y'all....been a few days since you have been graced with a post from Shelley.

I just read something comical, so I thought I would pass it along for your own amusement. I was reading the news section on our local police department's website...reading a few news articles on clients in the office and I came across this old article and it just made me chuckle. Read at your own enjoyment.

They were charged with two counts of burglary eh? Too bad they didn't charge them with two counts of hilarious stupidity. The stealing is bad...and not funny...the leaving a footprint trail to your door...now that it just hilarious.

That's my sharing for the day! Happy Friday. Enjoy....
