What were they thinking?
So, I watched a lot of the Olympics....and this guy wins the asshat of the year award.
Cornelius Horan...an Irish priest ran out during the middle of the men's marathon, tackled the guy in the lead and pushed him into the crowd.
The link I put above...is what bothers me most. The guy was sentenced for one year...and that sentence was suspended and only fined $3,600. I think that is ridiculous...this man decided to interrupt a man's Olympic dream to spout off about his own political agenda.
AND...what bothers me most....this isn't the first time he has done this. He seems to think that interrupting sports events is the best way to get his point across. He ran onto the track of the British Grand Prix last year...causing the cars to swerve around him on the track...while they were going 200+ miles an hour. He also protested at Wimbeldon...and has tried to disrupt rugby matched and the like.
So, it seems like this guy is not getting the message that what he is doing is wrong....and what did the courts do by not sentencing him and giving him actual consequences...well, they just assured him that he can keep doing it.
And...I can't help but remember some silly shmuck who jumped into the pool at the Olympics to impress his wife and promote his website...and he was sentenced to 5 MONTHS! Did this guy actually stop someone from possibly winning the medal they deserve? Nope...but he's been sentenced to spend time behind bars. He's appealing....but still.
*shakes head*
Sometimes I am overwhelmed at how broken this world is....
